I’ve been away for some time, for a variety of reasons, mostly work, but some necessary family issues, too. So I’m back.
As with many people these days, the Covid19 coronavirus is taking up a disturbing amount of my mental computing power. It’s an undoubtedly contagious bug, that’s undeniable. But it does seem overhyped. I suppose that we’ll see, but I think the panic is much, much worse than the actual medical event. That concerns me a lot.
Human beings crave control over their lives when things are going well, but will accept many indignities and suppressions of their freedoms when things aren’t so rosy. Sometimes all you need is a consensus played over a loudspeaker, repeated long enough, and fear can control our human herds…
