It’s been a long couple of days, so I’m getting to this week’s dispatch bit late. Modern life, you know?
I started to think about all the advantages we have in these current times, all the changes in technology. At least in the Western world, we’ve got clean water, plentiful food, medicine both preventative and triage, and leisure time to take care of ourselves. Not so in the Viking Age. Rampant disease, crop failures, war, even simple infant mortality brought the average age of Viking men to around 50 years of age for a VERY aged demise. For the womenfolk, a sparse 30 years. Not fun, that.
While I am embracing my background, I don’t think I want to go that far. I should have died by now, after all. As a matter of fact, as a point of Viking adventure and self-improvement, I’ll be working all that much harder on bolstering my defenses, making myself Viking Strong in the Modern Life.
